Is your Singapore business ready for InvoiceNow?
With Singapore’s GST InvoiceNow Requirement being rolled out progressively, GST-registered businesses need to understand when they will be affected, what they need to do, and whether their accounting software is ready.
If you are a Singapore SME, business owner, finance professional or accountant, this guide explains InvoiceNow and GST InvoiceNow in simple, practical terms — including the key requirements, implementation timeline and how accounting software such as Xero can help.
What is InvoiceNow in Singapore?
InvoiceNow is Singapore’s nationwide e-invoicing network, introduced by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
It allows businesses to send and receive structured digital invoices directly between accounting or finance systems through the Peppol network, instead of relying on paper invoices, PDFs or manual data entry.
For Singapore SMEs, InvoiceNow can help businesses:
- Send and receive e-invoices electronically
- Reduce manual data entry and administrative work
- Reduce invoicing errors
- Improve invoice processing efficiency
- Receive invoices directly into accounting software
- Streamline financial and accounting processes
- Prepare for Singapore’s GST InvoiceNow requirements
What is GST InvoiceNow?
The GST InvoiceNow Requirement is a Singapore tax administration initiative by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) that uses the InvoiceNow network to transmit invoice data to IRAS.
Under the requirement, GST-registered businesses will progressively be required to transmit invoice data to IRAS using InvoiceNow-Ready Solutions.
The requirement is being implemented in phases and will eventually cover all GST-registered businesses in Singapore.
InvoiceNow vs GST InvoiceNow
- InvoiceNow
Singapore’s nationwide e-invoicing network that enables businesses to send and receive structured e-invoices through the Peppol network. - GST InvoiceNow Requirement
The phased requirement for GST-registered businesses to transmit invoice data to IRAS through the InvoiceNow network.
In simple terms:
- InvoiceNow = the e-invoicing network
- GST InvoiceNow = using that network to transmit invoice data to IRAS
The GST InvoiceNow Requirement is being introduced progressively based on when a business registers for GST and, for existing GST-registered businesses, its annual supplies.
| Implementation Date | Businesses Affected |
|---|---|
| 1 November 2025 | Newly incorporated companies that voluntarily register for GST within 6 months of incorporation |
| 1 April 2026 | Businesses that apply for voluntary GST registration on or after 1 April 2026 |
| 1 April 2028 | New compulsory GST registrants and existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of S$200,000 or less |
| 1 April 2029 | Existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of S$1 million or less |
| 1 April 2030 | Existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of S$4 million or less |
| 1 April 2031 | Existing GST-registered businesses with annual supplies of more than S$4 million |
The implementation dates above are based on the current IRAS requirements. Existing GST-registered businesses were to be informed of their applicable mandatory implementation date by mid-2026.
Is InvoiceNow mandatory in Singapore?
InvoiceNow and the GST InvoiceNow Requirement are related, but they are not exactly the same thing.
Singapore is progressively introducing the GST InvoiceNow Requirement for GST-registered businesses. The requirement began with specific groups in 2025 and 2026 and will expand progressively until all GST-registered businesses are covered by April 2031.
Businesses are also encouraged to adopt InvoiceNow early, before their mandatory implementation date.
This means that Singapore SMEs should not wait until their deadline to start preparing.
How does InvoiceNow work?
InvoiceNow uses the Peppol network to exchange structured electronic invoices between businesses.
A simplified process looks like this:
1. Create an invoice
Create your invoice using an InvoiceNow-ready accounting or invoicing solution.
2. Send the e-invoice
The invoice is transmitted through the InvoiceNow network.
3. Your customer receives it
The e-invoice can flow directly into the customer’s connected accounting or finance system.
4. Invoice data can be transmitted to IRAS
For businesses subject to the GST InvoiceNow Requirement, invoice data is transmitted to IRAS through the InvoiceNow network.
This reduces the need for manual data entry and can make invoicing and accounting processes more efficient.
What do Singapore businesses need to do to prepare?
If your business is affected by GST InvoiceNow, there are several practical steps to consider.
1. Check your GST registration status
Determine whether your business is GST-registered and whether you fall within the current or upcoming implementation phases.
2. Check your accounting software
Your accounting or finance software needs to support the InvoiceNow requirements applicable to your business.
3. Get connected to InvoiceNow
Your business needs to use an InvoiceNow-Ready Solution and connect to the InvoiceNow network.
4. Review your invoicing processes
Consider how invoices are created, sent, received, recorded and transmitted.
5. Prepare your team
Your business and accounting team should understand how InvoiceNow will affect day-to-day invoicing and bookkeeping.
6. Start early
Don’t wait until the mandatory deadline. Early onboarding gives your business time to identify and resolve technical or process issues.
